The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition

We rank the highest-scoring new Xbox games released in 2023. We rank the highest-scoring new PlayStation games released in 2023. @JustMonika I have a good chunk of thise all digital since that’s my preference. Anyhoo, that company you spoke of I wonder why they worn bring their games over. Trying to put a negative on the 'grim' mood of the game doesn't wash either- I mean, you have to be in the mood for games like Mario galaxy or any other game. The question really is, are you ready to play a game or not.

I love Ace Attorney, but it feels like a video game, with lots of choices and decisions. This feels like literally just reading and not a game in any way.... One of the most striking aspects of Morgana's personality is her emotional guardedness. Her past traumas have left her emotionally scarred, and she initially presents a stoic and distant front. She is wary of forming connections with others and hesitant to open herself up to vulnerability. The House in Fata Morgana[a] is a visual novel video game developed by Novectacle.

I know loads of people who really love their visual novels, friends and family members and they're a strange bunch, they all have that weird emo vibe going on. By the way, I don't think visual novels should be considered videogames .-. Finishing visual novels isn’t hard at all, unless you are forcing yourself to finish, of course. I don’t see the reason for the pat on the back, seems a little patronizing. I felt like a lot of the points mentioned above resonated with me, especially how dark and grim it can get.

@piecez If a soundtrack could file a restraining order on me, this one should, many times over. I think symphonic music and music in other languages is just not for everyone, much like VNs, but a lot of people do clearly get it if you look at the comments section for any of the tracks on YouTube. @piecez I don’t quite understand the grating music comment either. Some scenes I left to play longer than needed because the soundtrack is so good. One of my favourite VNs bug definitely would have benefitted from some more editing along the way.

This contrast between her guarded exterior and her inner longing sets the stage for her character's development. One of the defining characteristics of Morgana's character is her emotional guardedness. Her past, marred by unimaginable suffering, has left her emotionally scarred. As a result, she initially presents a stoic and distant front, wary of forming connections with others. Her painful past has made her hesitant to open herself up to further pain or vulnerability. Morgana's character is defined by her capacity for empathy and compassion.

However, the spirit recalls his true identity as Michel and deduces that the previous story was falsified and that the Maid is actually Giselle. In reality, Giselle was another young woman who was repeatedly raped by her employer, Antonin. Giselle was to be executed, but Antonin instead banished her to the mansion where Michel, his son, lived.

At her insistent request, Michel destroys her, allowing Morgana's soul to become whole again. Now knowing the reasons behind the three men's actions, Morgana frees their spirits despite not forgiving them. Michel also finds Georges' soul, but as they and Morgana go to leave the mansion, Didier's soul blocks their path.

It was released for Microsoft Windows and iOS by Novectacle in 2012 and 2014 in Japan, and for Microsoft Windows by MangaGamer in 2016 internationally. Additionally, a Nintendo 3DS version was released by FuRyu in 2016, and a PlayStation Vita version was released by Dramatic Create in 2017, both exclusive to Japan. Another PlayStation Vita version, as well as a PlayStation 4 version, were released in North America by Limited Run Games in 2019, who also released a Nintendo Switch version of the game in 2021. At the outset, Morgana is introduced as a mysterious woman with blood-stained scars, hinting at a traumatic past filled with pain and suffering. Her physical appearance reflects her vulnerability and sets the stage for the complexities of her character.

She was freed in a slave uprising and cared for at a brothel, but bandits abducted Morgana. A swordsman killed their captors and fellow captives alike, sparing only Morgana. Morgana lived in a cottage until a boy requested she heal his sick sister. After Morgana donated blood multiple times, the boy came to the cottage with the swordsman, who severed her arm. She was brought to the lord, who imprisoned her in an observation tower. Upon her death, Morgana's spirit lingered on, cursing the three men.

There are video games and books that have caused me to weep once or twice. Then there’s this, which caused tears multiple times a chapter. And not just from sorrow, but from fury, from joy, from connection, from relief. I think I even shed tears over emotions that I didn’t even think were previously able to produce tears.

She becomes increasingly willing to face her own inner demons and confront the darkness within her. This internal struggle adds depth to her character, as she grapples with her own past actions and the harm they have caused others. Morgana's character is a central and multifaceted figure in the narrative, and her development and dynamics throughout the story are a rich tapestry of emotions, experiences, and personal growth. As the story unfolds, Morgana's personality evolves from that of a damaged and guarded individual to someone who is actively seeking forgiveness and redemption.

Reading through other text-based games hasn’t been as fun since. I actually just finished this and all the DLC a couple weeks ago. The backgrounds in the main game are super low budget and bad looking. The sequel DLC's budget is significantly improved in that regard. It is an amazing experience and I'm glad it got made, but I'm not sure if I would've started it knowing what I do now.Everyone's mileage may vary but I would've 'enjoyed' it more with some heavy editing.

Jacopo agrees to free Morgana, but when the men climb the tower, they find her on the verge of death. Michel comforts her as she dies, but when he attempts to leave the mansion with her body, events play out as they originally had; Michel was not changing the past, but merely reliving it. The disembodied voice of Morgana offers to reincarnate Michel, which Giselle accepts. After Morgana curses Giselle so that she no longer ages, Giselle waits for hundreds of years, eventually donning the Maid's garb per Morgana's recommendation.

She embodies both vulnerability and resilience, guardedness and openness, darkness and the desire for redemption. Morgana's character is a study in contrasts and complexities. Now, like any analysis of a piece of visual art, any review of Fata Morgana is subjective. I don’t think the intensity of Fata Morgana is for everyone; it's not light, and anyone who's looking for some quiet, peaceful reading should probably look elsewhere. On a similar note, the pacing at the beginning can be a little slow for people who don’t like plain storytelling that doesn’t feel like it has much direction.

There are also a wealth of supporting characters, from the central mystery of the White-Haired Girl's identity, to the men and women in her life who support and use her. Waiting for things to make sense, waiting for the story to pick up, waiting for certain parts to be over. The beginning, in particular, is slow and boring, with a bunch of unlikeable characters that get themselves into predicaments because of irritating personality traits. People will repeatedly walk into painful situations out of inaction or poor decision-making at the beginning, and it can be frustrating. If you're a fan of visual novels, you likely already know these caveats.
